La Gomera’s uniquely mountainous terrain offers an extensive network of viewpoints from which you can appreciate the various landscapes surrounded by different sensations. In this article, we focus on the viewpoints from which you can observe the geological landmarks that provide clear evidence of La Gomera’s volcanic origins and one of the most important characteristics that will mark each step of the journey.

•     Miradores de Los Roques. Los Roques infuse the island landscape with their majesty. This is an excellent set of vantage points for viewing the Agando, Ojilla, La Laja, Carmona and La Zarcita. These geological monuments form the principal components of the landscape and were considered sacred by the original inhabitants of La Gomera.

•     Mirador de Igualero. The Mirador of Igualero is noted for its views of the Fortaleza de Chipude, a flat-toped rock formation that stands at a height of 1,240 metres. You can also see the Erque ravine, 7 km long and 800 metres high, where water has been shaping the stunning beauty that is pursued at every step. Here we find the monument to the Silbo Gomero, symbol of ancestral language arising from the need to communicate and that still lasts in our days.

•     Mirador del Santo. This viewpoint is to be found in the village of Arure, enclosed by two imposing mountain formations, the view falls gently away towards the sea. You can clearly see the distinct compositions of the different sedimentary layers. The impermeable nature of the various rocks and sediments leads to the appearance of numerous natural springs that imbue this picturesque ravine with ample greenery. This viewpoint, with its exclusive views of Tagaluche, is special to observe both the sunsets in the sea and the infinity of stars that are seen thanks to the skies so clean that the island gives us. In the afternoon hours you can hear the cenceros of the goats on their return walking among the impossible verticalities of its slopes.
